Program overview

One of the most important dimensions of gender equality is improved access to productive resources for women and girls. This includes income, education, information and services.

When you join GVI’s gender equality program in Cambodia, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to women and girls’ knowledge of conversational and written English. Working in collaboration with local partners, we support their participants and clients. Depending on your skills and the needs of our partners at the time, you could deliver workshops or sessions that support the organisation’s operations, or work directly with women and students.

Equitable power and agency – or the ability to make and act on decisions affecting all aspects of your life – is a cornerstone of gender equality. Some of the organisations and communities GVI works with in Cambodia have a specific mandate to support and advance women’s rights. Participants can support this work in specific areas, such as resource mobilisation, reporting, research or other activities that are needed. This supports our partners, who need these skills in order to apply for funding, communicate with donors and write reports. You could also deliver sessions at schools, including English classes. This ultimately contributes to the ability of the communities to to improve their gender equality goals. Participants are encouraged to be creative and apply their talents and experience to the areas with the strongest requirements.

Weekdays are spent on project work. A typical day starts with breakfast on base followed by a morning session consisting of tasks at our community hub or work location. Project work continues after the lunch break. In your free time, you’re welcome to explore the beautiful surroundings of Siem Reap and get to know its rich cultural heritage. The Angkor Archaeological Park is close to the GVI base. Because of its ancient temples and monuments, it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1992. You can also visit the floating markets of Tonle Sap Lake or spend time enjoying the waterfalls, national parks and restaurants in the area.
