As a community development intern, you’ll get the opportunity to gain a broad range of experience whilst participating in our sustainable community development initiatives in Fiji. You’ll also get the chance to gain a deeper insight into Fijian culture, living and working in a culturally rich environment. You’ll be involved in teaching English, running educational workshops or assisting with health and sanitation demonstrations. By taking part in a sustainable community development internship in Dawasamu, you can contribute towards a selection of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), including Goal 4: Quality Education, Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation and Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities.
This program offers you the opportunity to grow your own skillset and experience in teaching and develop your global competency skills by working with locals on a range of community development initiatives, such as freshwater management, education enrichment, environmental monitoring and mapping, waste management and health awareness.
Located among the forests and mountainous backdrop of the Dawasamu District, the dramatic Fijian landscape is defined by sweeping volcanic hillsides, dense jungle, fresh water waterfalls, extensive beaches and colourful coral reefs. It is here that you’ll work to assist villagers in adapting their livelihoods in response to the changing pressures on traditional life due to both environmental and social change.
We have partnered with local partner organisations to assist us in addressing existing issues within this community. The core focus areas of the program include WASH (Water, Sanitation, Hygiene) promotion, health and nutrition, education workshops, and environmental management and protection.
